In late 2006 the business and social group "The Business Partners" met for their monthly strategic initiative dinner at the now defunct Florentine Grill in Morris Plains. The subject of what to do for the holidays came up and ideas were brainstormed... the annual holiday dinners had been getting larger and more extravagant each time, stretching the capacity of the restaurant, so something different was needed. Why not a Santa Pub Crawl?
That first year approximately thirty Santas and Mrs. Claus's (Clausi?) strutted through the Morristown Green to bring in the first Annual Morristown Santa Pub Crawl, taking pictures with many confused and happy onlookers as they went. The idea was to get as many full suited SANTAS as possible, forming a uniform tide of red velvet and white beards flowing through the streets and bars of Morristown. To the creator's surprise, the stunt was welcomed with applause and merriment everywhere it went. The Santa's would lead each bar in a chorus or two of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" and with a jingle of bells and quick drink off to they next bar they would go.
After the great success of the 2006 crawl there was no doubt that there would have to be a bigger and better one in 2007. So, on Dec. 22nd 2007 the Santa's again descended onto the Famished Frog Bar & Grill, this time numbering over fifty strong. They made their way to the Dublin Pub, George and Martha's, The Funky Monkey and The Office spreading the holiday spirit and handing out Santa hats along the way, swelling their numbers at each bar as other Santa's joined in on the fun. Successive years have brought exponential growth to the ranks of the Santa Pub Crawl.
Founders Peter Williams and Steven Braybrook comment, "It's about lending your hand to those who have trouble enjoying themselves. Each additional Santa brings smiles and holiday spirit to everyone that bears witness to the spectacle." This sentiment is confirmed as the burgundy parade makes it's way from the Famished Frog to the Office, traffic stops in the streets, people wave excitedly, horns honk and even a Morristown police cruiser gives a friendly blip of the siren.
It's once again time for the Santa Pub Crawl in Morristown...
